In an overcrowded marketplace, the key to sales generation is capturing the attention of your target customers. One way to do just that is with eye-catching design. So what makes the difference between good design and bad? Here are a few simple suggestions.

Type   Good looking type is the cornerstone of good looking design. Appropriate font choice, type size, color choice, placement, spacing-all of these choices can dramatically affect the look of your design.

Image Resolution  These days many people look to the Internet as a source for free or cheap images. One thing often overlooked however is the quality and size of these images. Many people don't realize that an image that looks perfectly fine on the web is usually way too small to be reproduced properly in print. Just because it looks good on your screen doesn't mean it will print well. If you don't know what resolution to use, ask your printer.

Bleeds and Safe Margins  Many printers require a bleed area or safe zone around a design. This is to give wiggle room so images and text won't be cut off during printing. You should always check with your printer before beginning a design to find out how far from the edge to place your images and text. Adding a bleed at the end of a project usually results in having to reformat and adds a lot of time to a project.
Color and Contrast  Use color wisely and always be aware of how the color of text interacts with the color of your background images.

Get a Second Opinion  Finding out how your design will be perceived by others is an important part of the process. These are just a few tips for creating a design success story. All things considered, however, the most important thing about any design is that it gets the message across and drives your business.
